8. ISO Girls 11 And Up To Kickoff A New All-Girl Scouts BSA Troop
Scouts BSA, formerly The Boy Scouts of America, has set February 1, 2019 as the launch date for a new program to serve girls, ages 11-17. Troop 233, based in Bethesda, is gathering a team of girls and parents interested in creating an All-Girl Troop, parallel to the existing Boys' Troop, that will build leadership skills, character, citizenship, and personal fitness through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership. As part of the All-Girl Troop, girls will explore their interests and improve skills while working toward Scouting's highest rank, Eagle, just as the boys do in the Boys Troop. We'll hold a second information and planning meeting when school starts this fall. Please register your interest and ask your questions by writing to allgirltroop233@gmail.com

We teach proper technique, footwork with an emphasis on strategy, fitness and match play for more advanced players. The program is open for all levels of play. The program runs 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Monday through Friday. If your child is interested, feel free to contact me at the information below and I will send you a flier. 12. Slalom Kayaking on the Potomac for 9 to 13 year olds
Have you or your kids ever wondered why so many people in DC drive around with kayaks on top of their cars? It's because the Potomac River is one of the best natural kayaking locations in the US. Potomac Whitewater Racing Center (PWRC) is training several Olympic hopefuls in the sport of Slalom Kayaking, which is like slalom skiing only in a kayak. We're holding an open house so can you see the sport in action on Saturday June 2, 9am - 12pm on the feeder canal near Brookmont Maryland. We'll even have boats, paddles and safety equipment so your children can try it out themselves. For more information, or to RSVP, please email PWRC coach Silvan Poberaj at SPoberaj@gmail.com, or just drop by the feeder canal the morning of June 2. There's free parking in the neighborhood surrounding the Brookmont Church, or at Lock 6 of the C&O Canal off of the Clara Barton Parkway. From either location, it's a short walk to the entrance of the Feeder Canal.
