[pylenet] Pyle MS Announcements 6/5

This is a reminder that there is no school for Whitman students on Friday, June 8th due to graduation. Pyle students who normally take classes at Whitman will not have classes. If you report to Pyle to start the day, you will report to the cafeteria. You may also choose to report to Pyle at your normal arrival time; however, you will need to provide their own transportation to school.

Intramural tennis is tomorrow. Please note that there are no afternoon busses! Please remember that you need to arrange for your own transportation. It’s free and available for all grades and levels.

Are you a military child, with one or more family members in the military? Do you want to have some fun and meet other military kids? On Friday during TAG, we will hold an event for military children.  We also welcome our staff who are from military families! Just sign up in the counseling office before Friday.

The deadline for turning in Spring Student Service Learning hours is tomorrow. Again, the revised DEADLINE for spring student service learning hours is tomorrow. If you have questions, please see Mr. Schmidt in Room 41.

The Drive for Supplies day has been moved to Wednesday June 13th since there is already a locker cleanout that day. Again, Drive for Supplies has been moved to June 13th.

Do you want free candy?  Like a really big bag of candy?? Were you selected to help out with the 6th grade orientation this summer?  There will be a required meeting for all ambassadors on Friday, June 8th during TAG in Ms. Goodstein's room - room 40 in the basement.  We will be going over the details and job duties. P.S. There will be no free candy.  Sorry, it's bad for your teeth anyway!

The month of June is Pride month. We wish to recognize some of the people who have been influential in the pride movement. Best remembered for organizing the 1963 March on Washington, Bayard Rustin was an amazing civil rights activist who was gay. He never quit fighting for freedom and justice for all.

This Day in History: On this day in 1752, Benjamin Franklin flew a kite for the first time to demonstrate that lightning was a form of electricity.

Today’s Weird Fact: The Boston Marathon didn’t allow female runners until 1972.

Today’s Daily Quote: “For every good reason there is to lie, there is a better reason to tell the truth.”

Today’s Fun Holiday: June 5th is Hot Air Balloon Day. Hot air balloons are the oldest form of technology to carry humans, with the first human flight taking place in November, 1783 in Paris, France. Both leisure and travel have been affected by the hot air balloon, which is why a day exists for it.

Corny Joke of the Day: 37 consonants, 25 vowels, a question mark, and a comma went to court. They will be sentenced next Friday.

Today’s Weather Forecast: Sunny. High of 80 degrees and a low of 56.

At Pyle Middle School, we are committed to:  Demonstrating a passion for learning, Encouraging Academic and Personal Growth, Sustaining a nurturing and respectful environment, and Honoring Diversity. Have a Terrific Tuesday, Pyle!
