[pylenet] Pyle MS Announcements 6/6

This is a reminder that there is no school for Whitman students on Friday due to graduation. Pyle students who normally take classes at Whitman will not have classes. If you report to Pyle to start the day, you will report to the cafeteria. You may also choose to report to Pyle at your normal arrival time; however, you will need to provide their own transportation to school.

Intramural tennis is today although there are no afternoon busses! Please remember that you need to arrange for your own transportation home. Join us on the courts afterschool.

Media center obligations for 8th grade students were completed yesterday and placed in 1st period teachers’ mailboxes. Ms. Knafelc is still looking for 228 books from 6th and 7th graders. If you have a library book, return it. Now. Obligations are being written.

Are you a military child, with one or more family members in the military? Do you want to have some fun and meet other military kids? On Friday during TAG, we will hold an event for military children.  We also welcome our staff who are from military families! Just sign up in the counseling office before Friday.

The deadline for turning in Spring Student Service Learning hours is today. Again, the revised DEADLINE for spring student service learning hours is today. If you have questions, please see Mr. Schmidt in Room 41.

The Drive for Supplies day has been moved to Wednesday June 13th since there is already a locker cleanout that day. Again, Drive for Supplies has been moved to June 13th.

There will be a required meeting for all 6th grade orientation ambassadors on Friday during TAG in Ms. Goodstein's room - room 40 in the basement.  We will be going over the details and job duties.

The Pyle Middle School Art Exhibit is on display at Montgomery Mall near Macy’s until Sunday, June 10th. Please take a trip to visit the display and see the exceptional artwork from our student artists here at Pyle. You can visit the display during normal mall hours. The month of June is LGBT Pride month. We wish to recognize some of the people who have been influential in the LGBT movement. An amazing tennis champion, Martina Navratilova was one of the first openly gay athletes. Constantly speaking out for LGBT rights, she gave up millions in endorsements and sponsorships due to her unwillingness to live a lie.

This Day in History: On this day in 1944, the D-Day invasion of Europe took place on the beaches of Normandy, France. 400,000 Allied American, British and Canadian troops were involved.

Today’s Weird Fact: Eating a teaspoon of sugar after having something spicy, can help neutralize the burning sensation.

Today’s Daily Quote: “Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.”

Today’s Fun Holiday: June 6th is Yo-Yo Day. Yo-yos have been around 2,000 years and were originally known under different names such as quizzes or bandalores. To celebrate, host a Yo-Yo Olympics, where designated events have specific yo-yo based prizes.

Corny Joke of the Day: What do you call a group of singing dinosaurs? A tyranno-chorus.

Today’s Weather Forecast: Sunny and pleasant. High of 68 degrees and a low of 55.

At Pyle Middle School, we are committed to: Demonstrating a passion for learning, Encouraging Academic and Personal Growth, Sustaining a nurturing and respectful environment, and Honoring Diversity. Have a Wonderful Wednesday, Pyle!
