[pylenet] Pyle MS Announcements

Students are not permitted to ride another bus home after school. This policy has been in effect since the start of the school year and will continue until further notice according to the Bus Depot Manager.

This is a reminder that there is a Spirit Squad meeting today with Mrs. Best during TAG in room 209.

The media center will be issuing PAST DUE notices on Monday, November 28th.  These are not obligations.  Obligations will be issued on Monday, December 5th.  Please return all past due books as soon as possible.  Thank you.

Fall Sports Photos are in.  Please see Mr. Caswell down in the PE department if you purchased a team or individual photo this fall.

Following this heated election, we all might need a little help negotiating Thanksgiving Conversations with friends and family. Don't miss Pyle's own 6th Grader, Fin McCahill, on the Ellen Degeneres Show tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3pm on NBC channel 4 and on-line after the show airs.  In an Ellen-imagined sketch, Fin will be sitting down for a hilarious holiday meal with a "TV family" moderated by a real Washingtonian celeb.

Congrats to the Pyle Debate Team on its fine showing at George Washington University on Saturday.

The team of Chris Sylvester, Kushan Weerakoon and Ben Waldman went 4-0 and placed 2nd overall.

The team of Eleanor Clemens-Cope, Vera Chaudry, and Shreekanya Mitra went 3-1 and placed 9th overall. The team of Toby Goldberg, Alex Dacu, and Rhea Bhattacharjee went 3-1 and placed 10th overall. Ben Waldman was the 4th overall best speaker. Congrats again for representing Pyle so well.

The Pyle SGA will be running a canned food drive from November 30th to December 19th. Each grade-level team will compete against the other teams in your grade level to see who can bring in the most canned goods! We ask that you bring in canned and non-perishable items. For more information, please see Mr. Munson.

TASCC international will be holding a Run for Strength, a 5K run/1 mile walk on Saturday December 4th at Wheaton Regional Park. All money raised will go to TASCC, which is an organization that supports torture survivors worldwide. There will be food available after the race and raffle prizes and gift cards from the sponsors. To register for the race, go to TASSC.org/race/. The cost is $30 for the 5K run and $20 for the 1 mile walk. If you have any questions, please see 8th grader Ethan Wagner, or visit the website.

This Day in History:  On this day in 1963, U.S. President Kennedy was assassinated while riding in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas.  Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson was inaugurated as the 36th U.S. President.

Today's Weird Fact: President Abe Lincoln said Thanksgiving would be the fourth Thursday in November, but in 1939 President Roosevelt moved it up a week hoping it would help the shopping season during the Depression era. It never caught on and it was changed back two years later.

Corny Joke of the Day: What kind of music did the Pilgrims like? Plymouth Rock and Roll.

Today’s daily quote: “Never stop doing your best just because someone doesn’t give you credit.”

Today's Weather Forecast: Plenty of sunshine. High of 48 degrees and a low of 28.

At Pyle Middle School, we are committed to: Demonstrating a passion for learning, Encouraging Academic and Personal Growth, Sustaining a nurturing and respectful environment, and Honoring Diversity.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Pyle!! Enjoy the break. We will see you on Monday morning!
